Banister, P. A., and Smith, F. V. (1972). Brit. J. industr. Med., 29, 264-267. Vibration-induced white fingers and manipulative dexterity. Previous work has shown that Raynaud's phenomenon or vibration-induced white fingers are associated with consistent use of vibrating tools. The present study indicates that significant losses in manipulative skill are also associated with the use of power-driven saws when groups of users and non-users are compared.

Reduction of manipulative dexterities and activity of daily living in the patients with vibration induced white finger in Japanese forestry.
The authors carried out more than 20 yr of follow up studies of vibration-induced white finger (VWF) from the time of cessation for the use of chainsaws. These results were presented at the 8th International Conference of Hand-Arm Vibration. It is not uncommon for vibration exposed workers to report difficulty in hand gripping, either due to reduced dexterity or reduced grip strength . With res...

Manual dexterity and hand functional difficulties in daily life in hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) were investigated in 29 male patients with HAVS and 30 male controls without occupational exposure to hand-arm vibration. Manual dexterity was assessed by measuring the performance time of picking up and transferring 30 red beans, one by one, from one plate to another. Vibrotactile perception t...
متن کاملVibration energy absorption (VEA) in human fingers-hand-arm system.
A methodology for measuring the vibration energy absorbed into the fingers and the palm exposed to vibration is proposed to study the distribution of the vibration energy absorption (VEA) in the fingers-hand-arm system and to explore its potential association with vibration-induced white finger (VWF). The study involved 12 adult male subjects, constant-velocity sinusoidal excitations at 10 diff...
متن کاملDiagnostics of hand-arm system disorders in workers who use vibrating tools.
A hand-arm vibration syndrome occurs in some workers who use hand held vibrating tools. It is recognised to consist of white fingers, diffusely distributed finger neuropathy, pain in the arm and hand, and a small excess risk of osteoarthrosis from percussion to the wrist and elbow. Carpal tunnel syndrome is mainly due to ergonomic factors other than vibration, but certain factors related to vib...
متن کاملSympathetic responses to hand-arm vibration and symptoms of the foot.
Vibration syndrome is generally considered to consist of disorders in the upper extremities which are directly exposed to vibration. However, it has been shown that vibration syndrome patients have circulatory disturbances in the foot as well: several chain-saw operators, who were little exposed to vibration of the foot, had Raynaud's phenomenon of the toes, and those with frequent attacks of v...
